These pics might bring back a few memories...
FYI -
They used this Chris Craft Stinger in the pilot episode "Brother's Keeper."

But then used this Stinger 390X for the first season:

They used this Wellcraft 38' Scarab KV used in seasons 2-5:

The Scarab 38 KV was a 28-hued, twin 440-hp boat that sold for $130,000 in 1986.

As a result of the attention the Scarab 38 KV garnered on Miami Vice, Wellcraft received "an onslaught of orders", increasing sales by 21% in one year alone. In appreciation, Wellcraft gave Don Johnson an exact duplicate of the boat as a gift.
Altogether, one hundred copies of the boat (dubbed the "Scarab 38KV Miami Vice Edition") were built by Wellcraft.
In total, six real-life Scarab 38KV TV-boats were built, including the one given to Don Johnson.

One of my colleagues took these pics as one of the original "Scarab 38KV TV-boats" cruises past his boat in Catawaba Ohio:

Wow,

I was a young cat back then. I loved to watch Crocket and Tubbs on their fast boats and the girls......

Brings back some "fun" memories when I was in my 20s and enjoyed a little "sun", "boating", etc... 8-)

Here's some more pics from this past weekend...
My colleagues boat is the Thompson you can see in the pics.. - so the Miami Vice boat is his dock neighbor.

Some additional tidbits..

Don Johnson also designed the Scarab Excel 43 ft, Don Johnson Signature Series (DJSS), and raced a similar one as well. The Don Johnson Signature Series was powered by twin 650-hp Lamborghini V-12's, which caused some problem to the design of the boat due to their size. Overall the boat cost $300,000 with each engine alone amounting to between $60-$70,000. The thrill of boat racing would lead Johnson to startup his own Offshore powerboat racing team, called Team USA. Joining him were other Hollywood stars like Kurt Russell and Chuck Norris, and eventually Johnson would win the Offshore World Cup in 1988 and continue racing into the 1990s.

Even though the boat is older, it still has a great look to it. Back in the day I would always watch the show. A few years ago it was on TV but only got to watch it a few times. Back then I had no boat but always thought the boat scenes were cool. Don Johnson (Crockette?) was the guy to be. The Miami setting was so glamorous; the women, the fun, the drugs. I don't think things have changed since then.
